Mr. Kayonde Abdallah, the Founding President of the Migrant Workers Voice Organization, and the interim President of FUMWA ( Federation of Ugandan Migrant Workers Associations original) has today visited his colleagues at the Women's Pro Bono Initiative at their offices in Kampala.
They discussed various pressing issues, notably the landmark case where a Ugandan migrant worker's family received 250 million UGX in compensation for their mother's death in Saudi Arabia. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the treatment of migrant workers and the need for collaborative efforts between organizations to address these challenges effectively. The meeting underscored the importance of joint initiatives to advocate for migrant rights and improve their working conditions. Alot more during their in door meeting has been discussed and more cases of similar nature are yet to come up.
Up to now recruitment agencies remain silent and divided in silos as Migrant workers' organizations and civil society bodies get cohesive in cohorts to get at the top of the challenges affecting their members. Mr Kayonde has called on all migrant workers to avoid being lured into divisions especially at the time when country has just registered this landmark judgement, he said many migrant workers and their families innocently are being diverted by some self seeking groups of people justify themselves as having been Kyeeyo with illicit initiatives to continue keeping them slaves and beggers of support all over social media year in ,year out, yet they can use a chance to unite under one umbrella body FUMWA
and have a national Voice with a national Character to enable them exercise their right to collective bargaining and fair hearing before its too late for them to claim alife after their death. He has thanked he colleagues at Women's pro bono initiative for the wonderful case law about labour migration seen in place now.
